1-Amino-3,5,7-trinitroadamantane: an unexpected oxidation product of 1,3,5,7-tetraaminoadamantane. An improved synthesis of 1,3,5,7-tetranitroadamantane.

1,3,5,7-Tetraaminoadamantane is unexpectedly oxidized to 1-amino-3,5,7-trinitroadamantane by means of sodium percarbonate and N,N,N',N'-tetraacetylethylenediamine. Subsequent ozonation gives 1,3,5,7-tetranitroadamantane.
