Summary: The use of industrial slag in highway construction is not a new concept. Industrial slags are hard, durable coarse aggregates that have been used successfully in Hot Mix Asphalt Concretes (HMAC) for many years. Recently, however, improperly cured steel slags have become evident in HMAC pavements. This has resulted in unrepairable distress and distortions in HMAC pavements. Three case histories are examined and the findings are presented in this work.
