Description: Readily synthesized iodonium bis-sym-collidine perchlorate is a non-nucleophilic iodonium ion transfer reagent, and has been used to effect iodocyclization reactions of both unsaturated alcohols and carboxylic acids. The absence of solvent (CH(,2)Cl(,2)) or reagent derived nucleophiles allows the facile formation of three to seven membered cyclic ethers, and four to seven membered lactones. Aspects of regiochemistry in the formation of oxirane and oxetane compounds, as well as the conformations of oxetane products are also discussed.
