The Dielectric Properties Of Cyclodextrins In Aqueous Solutions

Description: The dielectric properties of alpha and beta cyclodextrin have been investigated in aqueous solutions. Static dielectric constants were measured in water and in mixtures of methyl sulfoxide-water and methanol-water at 25(DEGREES)C. Dielectric constants and losses were measured for water solutions only at frequencies of 9.1 and 23.6 GHz over the temperature range 20-50(DEGREES)C. Results indicate a reordering of water molecules upon addition of cyclodextrin extending well beyond that of the first hydration sphere and that the water molecules as a whole have become more ordered. The increase in water structure is interputed as due to the increasing number of water-water hydrogen bonds.
