Developing an admissions test in mathematics for postsecondary correctional education programs

View Full Record
Description: This thesis examines the validity and reliability of an admissions test in mathematics. Developed by two prison educators, the test is designed to determine whether inmates enrolling in postsecondary correctional education (PSCE) programs possess the mathematical ability required for college level work. It is argued that proper admissions testing can lead to increased rates of program completion, which could help to quell legislative opposition, and improve the potential for increased federal funding of PSCE programs. The future of PSCE programs, and necessary improvements to the test, are discussed.
