||Previous research suggests that classroom quality is related to vocabulary development in preschool age children. While previous studies have focused on vocabulary breadth, the current study assessed vocabulary depth through Word Definition and Taxonomic tasks. Two measures were used to assess classroom environment, with particular focus on the language and literacy environment and the interactions between the teacher and children. Teacher characteristics, including experience, education, and attitudes, were also measured. Teacher education and attitude were significantly related to children's performance on the Taxonomic task. Considering that this was an initial attempt at assessing teacher attitudes with a newly developed measure and very small sample size, these results are very encouraging.
