Rhythmic Attunement Augustine's Theory on Ordering the Soul

View Full Record
Description: Augustine's De musica has been given relatively little attention in the scholarship on Augustine. This thesis is a call to reexamine the text in its original context. As was common for a reflection on music in the Ancient tradition, Augustine's De musica book VI is a discussion of the unified totality of all that is observable. In the case of Augustine's project, he extends the purview of the music treatise beyond its traditional reflection on cosmos to include interior existence, specifically describing the unity of the soul and the possibility for its harmonious connection to both the body and Wisdom.
